It was dear-old Sir Isaac Newton, while desperately scrambling to grab a Granny Smith that was recalcitrantly floating off in the direction of Neptune, that thought it would be great if stuff stayed on Earth and thus invented gravity.

It’s been terribly useful, both in the base-jumping community and among young trail-blazing winemakers. For with the most innovative, gravity-fed wineries are all the rage. Producers such as Lechburg, design their wineries over several floors, so grapes and must is moved purely by gravity, with no need for pumps or conveyor belts, allowing wine to be moved around much more gently. This is highly advantageous as too much force during vinification can result in wines that are over-extracted and over-tannic, losing nuance and aromatics. Not to mention, less machines means a smaller ‘carbon footprint!’

Sounds pretty great, right? And that’s before you’ve even experienced the powerful aromatic profile of this Gewürztraminer with a full-body and rounded palate of lychee, tropical fruit, bergamot peel and saffron. God bless you Sir Isaac!
Lechburg winery originally founded in 1962, is owned and operated by a Northern Italian family with a long history of winemaking, across many generations, who recognised the huge potential of the Lechinta region in Romania for quality wine production.

The Lechinta zone is a wine-growing area of small extent but with a strong tradition specialised since the 13th century thanks to the people of Saxon who originated from the Rhine Valley and the Mosel. The imprint of Alsatian and Rhenish tradition is therefore the distinctive character of the local viticulture.

Lechburg produce DOC certified organic wines, 80% white 20% red, made in their state of the art gravity-fed winery that operates over 4 floors. Every level is equipped with cement tanks used for different processes: settling of must, fermentation, aging wine. This particular structure ensures the different level fall which is necessary for the various operations minimizing in this way the use of oenological pumps thus ensuring delicate decanting.
