Don't get bogged down in the science, they found out what a lot of people thought was Merlot was actually, Carmenere. Great, hooray for Carmenere, but what about poor old Merlot. It's still got so much to give! We can't sit by while Merlot, in the prime of life, is shipped off to a Chilean nursing home. Thankfully, Vinedos Puertas have put good old Merlot back to work in Chile and I promise you, this time it's not actually Carmenere in a Halloween costume... probably.
Vinedos Puertas is a family-run winery founded by Jose Puertas in 1950. 70 years late Vinedos Puertas is one of the most significant producers in the central zone of Chile. Los Tortolitos Merlot, grown in Velle de Curico, offers a wonderfully easy-drinking and moreish red bursting with fresh forest fruit flavours, combing with notes of cassis and cloves.
