Lothian Riesling sounds like an all action hero, doesn’t he? You can imagine him sliding effortlessly across the bonnet of a car and despatching a bad guy before fixing his already perfectly coiffured hair, cracking wise and strolling off into the sunset with barely a scratch on him and a blonde on his arm.
In reality the Lothian Riesling really is the wine equivalent of the all action hero. This bad boy is untouchable, debonair, versatile in any situation and is not afraid to give your taste buds a bit of a doing over. Yippee-ki-yay wine picker.
Lothian Vineyards, started in 2004, is a 10 hectare vineyard in the highlands of Elgin. Lothian specialises in the cold climate Burgundian wines - Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling but also has Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier.
Elgin is a traditional apple growing area that is becoming well known for its wines. It enjoys the famous Cape sunshine but has the added benefit of higher altitude and proximity to the ocean.
The vineyard is owned by the Wilson family, originally from Scotland, who are now in their third generation of grape growing and winemaking in the Cape.
