Manuka Springs Sauvignon Blanc 2017

All over Marlborough unusual geysers spurt manuka honey high into the air. Although initially this was a sticky nightmare for the locals, since manuka honey joined goji berries and pink Himalayan rock salt in the mystical list of superfoods, the locals have embraced the manuka springs.

The world renowned Sherwood Estate makes this wonderful Sauvignon Blanc in their honour. A veritable fruit salad up the nose, gooseberries, limes, guavas and passionfruits, followed by a tangy lemony slap on the taste buds.

If you know your Oddbins history, you’ll remember Sherwood Estate’s beautiful Stratum wines. Dayne and Jill Sherwood started Sherwood Estate in 1987 by planting their first vines in West Melton on the Canterbury Plains, 10 minutes west of Christchurch. Since then the empire has grown significantly and expanded into other areas of New Zealand including Waipara, Marlborough and most recently Hawkes Bay.

They produce subtle, elegant and complex wines and this wine is no exception. Manuka Springs Sauvignon Blanc displays aromatic gooseberry, guava and passionfruit notes, the palate is crisp, tangy and refreshing with a long citrussy finish. It’s crafted in an exuberantly fruity style, making it approachable in its youth and great on its own or with similarly fruity dishes. Try with oysters, scallops, white fish or soft goats’ cheese given a fruity or Thai twist.
