Pascal Marchand is evidence that you can achieve anything that you put your mind to*cliché klaxon sounds*. For, not only did he start a Burgundy negociant business in 2005, he did so as a Canadian. That’s crazy, that’s like being born in Canoga Park, California, not being German and yet growing up to be a British royal… It just doesn’t happen!

The Burgundian wine industry is about as difficult to infiltrate as the British royal family and is probably even more obstinate. Yet, Marchand-Tawse, in just 13 short years, is already regarded as one of the most exciting Burgundy producers around; exploring biodynamic farming and modern winemaking practices, while producing a wide and complete range across both the Cote de Beaune and Cote de Nuits. Their Bourgogne Rouge is sensually aromatic with tart flavours of redcurrants and raspberry overly lay on a bed of smoky cedar, forest floor and truffle oil. A wine well worthy of a duchess we’d say!

Maison Marchand-Tawse was created in 2005 by the famous Quebec winemaker Pascal Marchand. Based in Nuits-Saint-Georges, this winery worked hard to become one of the rising stars of Burgundy and reach the highest quality level and a wide and complete range across both Cote de Beaune and Cote de Nuits.
Pascal Marchand arrived in Burgundy from Quebec in the early 80s and immediately fell in love with it. After his studies in winemaking, his career started in 1985 with Comte Armand, at Clos des Epenots. Someone so young managing such an old Burgundian Domaine soon made a star of him, Pascal continued his work at the Domaine de la Vougerait. He contributed to create it and devote it to biodynamic farming. After a phase of consulting as a flying winemaker in the new world, Pascal opens his negociant in 2005. In 2010 he associates with his old friend Moray Tawse and together they gradually acquire 9 hectares of vineyards.

Marchand-Tawse's aim is to always be true to the terroir, in order to do this the winemaker has a light hand and adapts the winemaking and ageing to each specific wine. All the operations are performed according to the biodynamic calendar to take full advantage of the nature's rhythm and energy. The result are peculiar wines, elegant, pure and an honest picture of the terroir and vintage.
