Martins Pick Up Shiraz 2017

You don't see many pick-up trucks in Britain, perhaps because the perpetual rain would ruin the building equipment stowed in the back or because we’re so distrusting of our neighbours that we'd be concerned that a fella on a moped would pinch the shopping straight out of the cargo tray. Disgraceful, that wouldn’t happen on Ramsey Street!

It's a shame, for if we all had access to a pickup truck we could stow significantly more of this medium bodied Shiraz, with flavours of juicy black cherries, red currants and hints of spicy oak combine together with soft tannins to give a lingering finish on the palate.
Produced by Adelaide Wine Estates, head winemaker Heather Frazer focuses on minimal intervention practices both in the vineyard and in the winery to deliver the truest expression of the varietal; a Shiraz with depth, complexity and personality.
The vineyards consist of sandy soils of varying depth over limestone and these require careful water management as they readily dry out during the summer months. Strategies involving supplementary irrigation and also canopy management are adapted to suit each individual site in order to provide a good balance of light and shade in the canopy to maximise fruit quality.

Fermentation was carried out under warm temperature conditions for a period of 6 days. This creates a good balance between extracting the appropriate tannin for wine structure and retaining fruit drive and aromatics.
