Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise Vidal-Fleury 2015 - Half Bottle - 375ml
£13.00
Muscat Blanc Petits Grains is a sneaky little grape. Although it's technically a white grape, some vines will produce berries that are a pink or reddish brown colour. A single vine has the potential to produce fruit of one colour one year, and a different colour the following year.
This tiny chameleon fruit tends to stick to its true colours in the Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise region in the Rhône, where it is the primary variety grown. Here, the berries are used to make deliciously sweet and fresh wines like this one from Vidal-fleury with an abundance of fruit and honey aromas and flavours.
J. Vidal-Fleury was established in the Rhône Valleys in 1781 and stands as the oldest continuously-operating winery in the Côtes du Rhône region. The winery focuses on select terroirs, vinifying and ageing wines from the Rhône's renowned appellations, whilst always allowing plenty of time to age and mature the wines they produce so as to get the best quality from the grapes.
Guy Sarton du Jonchay, winemaker at Vidal-Fleury, has had over 22 years experience in viticulture, vinification and bottling since studying in Montpelier and Bordeaux. Throughout his career, he has worked at Rosemount Estate, Australia, and Bodega Weinert, Argentina. Guy has also had the role of director at Chais Beaucairois and Barton and Guestier before finally joining the Vidal-Fleury team in 2008.
This sweet white wine has a very expressive nose, revealing aromas of lychee, grapefruit, orange peel, dried apricots and honey. The palate is fresh and not overly sweet whilst providing honeyed flavours along with white peaches and a grapefruit tang and a good acidity.
