Muscat de Riversaults Mas Las Cabes, is made with 60% Muscat of Alexandria and 40% Muscat de Petit Grains. They knock some cracking stuff out of Alexandria; the library of Alexandria which apparently modern university campuses are based on, they even had a Costa! The Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the 7 wonders of the world; despite being derelict since 1323. Finally, Muscat of Alexandria, that gives this wine beautiful flavours of lemon, honeyed apricot and verbena... Given the other two don't exist anymore, I'd forget about the wonders of Alexandria and stick with the Muscat, it tastes way better anyway.
Mas Las Cabes is a fifteen-hectare vineyard bought by the Gardiés family in 1990. Based near ‘Espira de l’Agly’ in Roussillon, the terroir is defined by black schist soils, which produce fine fruity wines with a nice concentration. This vineyard was bought in addition to the Domaine Gardiés family vineyard, which has been within the family for over seven generations. The grapes used in Mas Las Cabes are farmed organically and the wine mature on fine lees, for 6 months. Grape spirit is added to the wine, ‘muting’ fermentation, producing a succulently sweet wine, yet maintains an elegant fruit freshness and crispness of acidity.
