Upon approaching the Niepoort Junior Ruby Port you may well consider why a silhouette of Sue Perkins appears to adorn this fine bottle of fortified. Perhaps Niepoort are sending us subtle codes to dig deeper into the ousting of Mel and Sue from the Great British Bake Off, a trail of intrigue that will lead to a legendary fruitcake recipe written on the back of the Declaration of Independence… Someone call Nicholas Cage!

Possible, but we think it’s more likely that Niepoort are just thrilled about the reboot of the Generation Game (who isn’t?). A cultural institution but with a modern, fresh and approachable style just like their Junior Ruby!
Niepoort Vinhos was established in 1842, originally as a Dutch port shipper. Dirk Niepoort is the 5th generation incumbent, and the company now producers both fortified and non-fortified wines. Niepoort's mission is to continue to produce distinctive Port and Douro wines, combining centuries-old tradition with innovation.

The importance Niepoort attach to the need to interpret soils, climates and grape varieties has led them on the path of Organic and Biodynamic production methods, minimal intervention, while retaining high quality. The Junior Ruby comes from low yielding old vineyards in the Cima Corgo region of the Douro Valley. The grapes are predominantly trodden in lagares, prior to ageing in large wooden vats. The Junior Ruby undergoes an early filling and spends the rest of its time in the bottle, where it is protected against outside influences. Through this process, its youthfulness, dark colour, freshness and dark fruit aromas and flavours are optimally maintained.
