Offley was founded way back in 1737. 100 years later, in 1830, Joseph James Forrester moved to Oporto to join the team. He was conferred Baron by the Portuguese King, Fernando the Second, in 1855 for his important work mapping the River Douro and Port wine district. The winery is intensely proud of its heritage and stays true to its values of “passion, freedom, friends, instinct and sensations”. Winemaker Luis Sottomayor, who has studied oenology in France and Australia, joined parent company Sogrape in 1989 and is now the head winemaker for the Port and the Douro wines. Made using in the traditional Port method, the grapes were hand-harvested and fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks, under a controlled temperature, which was arrested by the addition of grape alcohol. The resulting wine is has an elegant red hue and a naturally sweetness, with balancing freshness. It is full-bodied with decent aromatic concentration and maturity.
