It must be terribly depressing to be one of these people that have entered into folklore for turning down a golden opportunity. Like the A&R guy that passed on the Beatles in 62 because he thought guitar groups were on the way out. For the next 55 years he had to endure utter bewilderment anytime it was brought up; "sorry, the Beatles? The Beatles, with John Lennon & Paul McCartney? You turned down the Beatles? You're aware that they became pretty successful? I mean, I love Hey Jude, one of my favourites! You probably regret that, ay?"

Rapaura Springs' finest Sauvignon vineyard has a similar tale of early rejection, "this land is only good for raising bulls," said the previous owner of the Bull Paddock. His loss was Rapaura Springs' gain; the silt rich soil and north facing aspect delivers a Sauvignon Blanc of exceptional quality, with succulent passionfruit, guava and citrus flavours, underscored by delicate jalapeño and fresh herbal elements. Layers of concentrated tropical fruit and citrus flavours are complemented by an attractive, flinty or mineral aspect on the full, rich palate.

Rapaura Springs was established in 2005 by the Neylon and Wiffin families in Marlborough, New Zealand, who continue to own and operate the estate. Their ethos is to leave a natural legacy for future generations by nurturing their immediate environment through sustainable vineyard and winemaking practices. Managed carefully under the strict Sustainable Wine Growing New Zealand standards, the estate employs a philosophy of minimal intervention across the entirety of their winemaking processes. The namesake spring, depicted on their labels, provides the vines with crystal clear water. After a six-month journey through a rocky aquifer, at the point where the Wairau River meets earth, the water forms a spring which then weaves its way through the vineyards. Growing and sourcing their grapes from across Marlborough’s sub-regions, Rapaura let the land, climate and water of New Zealand do all the arduous work before they handcraft their marvellous wines. The result is an exceptional series of both regional and single vineyard wines with distinct flavours expressive of the iconic regions they come from. In 2015 Rapaura Springs were recognised as the New Zealand producer of the year at the International Wine & Spirit Competition, London.
