Nicolas Potel, has been around the Burgundy block a few times. His dreams of continuing his family estate, Domaine de la Pousse d'Or in Volnay, were cut short after the untimely death of his father and shareholders decided to sell up. Potel then set up his négoçiant's business, Maison Potel-Aviron, only to lose it and suffered the further grievance of losing the right to the name, due to the manoeuvrings of wily financiers. Other Burgundian négoçiants might be hoping for a smidge of turmoil if it leads to wines like this… Potel’s newest project, Maison Roche de Bellene, like a crazy alchemist, is fermenting hardship* into astonishing Meursault, with beautiful citrus and brioche notes. Apparently, wine businesses are lovelier the second or third time around. *Disclaimer – no actual hardship goes into this wine as it is more of a concept, opposed to an actual foodstuff.

In 2005, Nicolas Potel created his own Estate, Domaine de Bellene, in Beaune with 15 Ha of organic vines in Côte de Beaune. In 2008, after the departure from Maison Potel-Aviron, Nicolas Potel launches his new negociant business called "Maison Roche de Bellene". Potel has been keeping the same source of wines and the same relationship with growers that he has been working with the last 15 years. One significant difference from the past is, that Maison Roche de Bellene are now only focusing on offering the finest wines, in limited cuvées. The Meursault, delivers a powerful and well-balanced wine from one of the finest Chardonnay producing regions in the world. Intense aromas of lemon, white blossom and salted bread, follow onto the palate and culminate in a long, mineral finish.
