When engaging in a little bit of football, it can be easy to over work it. As Moss from the IT crowd so eruditely announced; “the problem with Arsenal is they always try to walk it in!” Sometimes you need to cut out the nonsense and go Root 1 and just hoof it up to Peter Crouch (or a tall person who plays for Arsenal, we don’t really know about football).

The Vina Ventisquero winery had a similar philosophy of stripping out the unnecessary when planting their vineyard. The vines for Root: 1 are grown in area of Chile which is unaffected by the aphid phylloxera meaning their vines can stay ungrafted on their original rootstock. Many argue when this is practiced the resultant wine is notably more intense and well-defined, and when you take a sip of this Pinot Noir with its powerful palate of wild strawberries, mountain flowers and vanilla, you can see why they say it. Go on Peter, break out your robot dance!
Chile is a true rarity in the wine world. Unique geographic and climatic forces have allowed it to remain one of the very few grape growing regions in the world where original European rootstocks have survived, unaffected by Phylloxera – the vine disease that destroyed countless vineyards across the world, forcing grape growers to graft, or transplant and bind, their vines onto disease resistant rootstocks.

Crafted exclusively from grapes grown on original, ungrafted root systems and produced using sustainable methods, the intense fruit flavours and authentic varietal character of Root: 1 wines are living proof that character comes from your roots.
Located along the Pacific coast of Chile, the Casablanca Valley is widely recognized as one of the best spots in the world for growing Pinot Noir. Maritime breezes keep temperatures cool, while bright daytime sun encourages a lengthy growing season. Sandy clay loam soils allow the naturally low-vigour vines to produce bright, aromatic fruit flavours, while slow ripening ensures the development of natural sugars to balance the fruit’s characteristic acidity.
