Ruinart Rosé NV Champagne - Half Bottle - 375ml
£32.00
Ruinart is not a call to write on a Rothko, paint over a Banksy or put a traffic cone on a statue; it's the oldest Champagne house. Established in 1729, the first delivery of "wine with bubbles" left the house in January 1730. More than 280 years later, this squat little bottle, inspired by the 18th Century bottles, has become one of the most recognisable and sought after sparkling wines in the world. And this half sized bottle is even more squat that the original! The Ruinart Rosé is a real accomplishment: smooth as silk and crisp as morning dew, with red berries, fresh flowers and gentle spices.
Ruinart is the oldest established Champagne house, exclusively producing Champagne since 1729. Founded by Nicolas Ruinart in the city of Reims. An entrepreneur, Nicolas realised the ambitions of his Uncle, Dom Thierry Ruinart: to make Ruinart an authentic Champagne House. In the period immediately following the 1728 edict of Louis XV, which authorized the transport of wine in bottles, the house was established. Prior to this edict, wine could only be transported in barrels, which made it impossible to send Champagne to distant markets, and confined consumption primarily to its area of production. So Nicolas founded the House of Ruinart in 1729 and the first delivery of ‘wine with bubbles’ went out in January, 1730. At first the sparkling wine was a business gift for cloth purchasers, as Dom Ruinart’s brother was a cloth merchant, but six years later Maison Ruinart terminated its cloth selling activities due to success in the Champagne business. Since then, the Maison has kept the standards of excellence of its founders. The house is today owned by the parent company LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton.
The House considers Chardonnay is the very soul of Ruinart and he grape, mainly harvested from the Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims terroirs, is at the heart of all their cuvées. It is prized for its vivacity, purity and luminosity and it combines beautifully with Pinot Noir in their rosé.
The grapes are hand-picked and fermentation takes place in temperature-regulated, stainless steel fermenters. For the red wine, the grapes undergo a short maceration and light extraction. The wine undergoes full malolactic fermentation and receives a dosage of 9g/litre.
Intense, fruity and aromatic, Ruinart Rose owes its sensual elegance to the marriage of Chardonnay (45%), mainly from the Chardonnay Premiers Crus of the Cote des Blancs and Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims and Vallee, made into red wine. The nose is fresh and subtle, with ripe with cherry and freshly picked red berries followed by a splash of flowers and spicy notes. On the palate the wine is silky and delicately fleshy with a decadently long finish. A classic rosé Champagne.
