Quandries over the many LBV Ports on the market will no doubt leave you needing a glass of...well, LBV Port. But be assured that Sandeman's version is no flash in the pan, no fair-weather friend, oh no... These guys have been going for more than 200 years and, in 1805, became the first Port company to brand a cask with an iron brand, giving the wine a guarantee of quality. That quality has continued through the ages and is manifest in this surprisingly bright, red and blackcurrant knock-out Late Bottled Vintage Port.
In 1805 Sandeman became the first port company to brand a cask with an iron brand, giving the wine a guarantee of quality. The Sandeman ‘brand’ was later registered as a trademark in 1877 making it one of the oldest in the world. The iconic figure of the Sandeman Don appeared on bottles in 1928, again one of the first such trademarks ever created. Unlike vintage ports, Late Bottled Vintages enjoy an extended maturation in cask before bottling. This allows for a faster evolution of the wine’s dense tannins and flavours and, ultimately, for it to be ready for drinking much earlier.
