The Schauer Winery in Kitzeck, South Styria has roots in winemaking leading back to 1757. Since 2010 the family business has been run by Stefan and Bernhard Schauer, passed down to them from their father, Karl. The wines from Kitzeck are significantly different than other wines of the region due to a unique geological history. The incredibly steep vineyard slopes of Kitzeck once rose out of an ancient prehistoric sea and the slate soil allows for the wines to have an inimitable mineral character. The Family Schauer cultivates fifteen hectares around Gaisriegel. The typical Styrian varieties are grown here as well and next to the traditional wines there is also a broad assortment of single vineyard wines from very steep sites. The young winemaker Stefan strives to highlight the unique character of each vineyard. The family's wine tavern is situated in the middle of idyllic vineyards right next to the wine cellar where you are able to enjoy their wines with tasty regional speciailities.
