We love Portugal because they don't play by anyone else's rules when it comes to winemaking. The world wants Cabernet Sauvignon, Portugal carries on growing Touriga Nacional; the public move to light, early aging, easy drinking wines? Here, have some Port. Perhaps because they are cut off from the rest of Europe by the Pyrenees, Portugal have never fallen into the trap of ripping up their indigenous grapes and replacing them with internationally commercial ones.

Today, the plethora of native grape varieties is the Portuguese wine industries greatest resource. The breadth of styles that is not replicated anywhere else in the world is astonishing. Take the Serpentina Reserva White, which is made with a blend of Rabigato and Codega Do Larinho... We're not sure these are even grapes! However, the resultant wine has a deliciously mouth-watering natural acidity and minerality. Incredibly fresh and persistent on the palate the wine shows notes of white blossom, grapefruit and mineral salt.

The property was originally owned by the legendary Dona Antónia Ferreira (Ferreirinha). Located in the Demarcated Region of Douro, at an altitude of 600 metres it is an area known for the quality of its wines.
The majority of the estate’s total area is mainly covered with vineyards, of which 60% are white varieties (Rabigato, Códega do Larinho, Viosinho and Verdelho) and 40% red varieties (Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Sousão and Tinta Barroca). The vines are terraced or simply planted in ridges carved out into the rocky soil, having an average of 65 years old, but many of them are over 100 years old. In partnership with the “Sociedade Agrícola Quinta de Porrais, Lda”, the Santos Lima family is now responsible for the production and selling of the historical Quinta de Porrais' wines.
