Arran is a unique island known as "Scotland in miniature" because it has all the landscapes of Scotland, with mountains and lowlands, valleys, lakes and castles real (including one in Lochranza). Early in the 19th century there were more than 50 Arran whiskey distilleries, mostly illegal and carefully hidden from the eyes of tax collectors.
