The Barry Brothers Red 2017
£19.00
This red isn't like every other Tom, Dick and Harry. However, it has been passed down from Jim to Peter and Tom Barry. The Barry family has been making wine in the lovely, cool climes of South Australia's Clare Valley for many a moon and they have maintained Jim passion for innovation and his exacting standards.
This blend of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon was made with the family's values in mind; it is bold, contemporary and full of bitter dark chocolate and blueberry notes. Thank you, fellas; may your family's wines always live on.
Jim Barry founded the Jim Barry winery in 1959 with his wife Nancy and the vineyard has been creating award-winning wines since then. Jim Barry was somewhat of a pioneer of Australian wine-making; he was the first qualified wine-maker to start producing in the Clare Valley. The Jim Barry vineyards are now managed by his second son Peter Barry.
The Barry Brothers Red 2012 was produced by Tom Barry, Jim's grandson. Tom has gained a wealth of experience in viticulture from all over the world. He obtained a degree in Oenology at Adelaide university and went on to make wine in some great estates across the world, most notably; Yalumba and Dr Ernst Loosen.
It is important to Peter Barry and his family to follow in Jim Barry's footsteps and carry on creating innovative wines. The 2012 vintage of The Barry Brother's red was one of their best yet. The heavy rainfall in March came at the perfect time. The result was top quality fruit that would create full bodied reds with great colour and tannins.
The Clare Valley is one of the most prestigious premium wine-making areas in Australia and is famous for its Shiraz. This Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon blend is a deep purple-tinged red with aromas of violets, black forest fruits, vanilla and fresh mint. It is well-balanced with flavours of mocha, licquorice, raspberries and blueberries.
