It's extraordinary to think of Eastern Europe as the new frontier of quality wine production. After all, in Tikves Macedonia vines have been around since the Roman times because apparently that's just what Romans do. Prompting Liberation Front of Macedonia members everywhere to ask, "all right, but apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, public health, and the delicious wine what have the Romans ever done for us?" Yet, even compared to the South Americas, Eastern European wine seems new; it was probably all that communism business.

Better late than never we say, when it comes to discovering excellent wine. Tikves Cuvee Methodius Vranec is a deeply coloured red wine revealing vibrant aromas of blueberries and blackberries, with hints of chocolate and coca. Full bodied and harmoniously balanced, with ripe smooth tannins, and juicy plum and blackberry flavours. Still, we've got to do something about those Romans.

The Tikveš winery was founded in 1885 and is the oldest and largest winery in South East Europe. In 2003, the winery was acquired by M6 Investment Group, and significant investments were made with particular attention being made to improving and modernizing the entire production process.
Located in the Tikveš region of Central Macedonia, the estate sustainably cultivates indigenous varieties such as Smederevka, Vranec and Kratoshija. The grapes are vinified in the state of the art cellar equipped with the latest technology.
The grapes were destemmed, crushed and fermented in stainless steel tanks to retain the purity of fruit. When fermentation was complete, the young wine was pressed off its skins in a pneumatic press, cold stabilised, filtered and bottled with minimal sulphur.
