Sitting high upon the cliffs in the Awatere Valley in Marlborough, this wine seems to have taken on the grandeur and liberty of its surroundings. With its bright flavours and pronounced body, you can almost hear the gulls crying out as the waves pound the rocks below. It has been made with passion and expertise, at a tiny, family-run enterprise that has made full use of this exceptional terror to produce an invigorating wine. With towering stone fruit and fresh celery notes, it is a dramatic match for sea fare like Crayfish (if you can clamber down the cliffs to catch it that is).

A family run wine estate on north-facing river flats overlooking the Awatere (pronounced: ‘Ow–wa–terry’) River, led by meticulous vigneron David Turnbull and renowned local winemaker Glenn Thomas, who was the first winemaker for Vavasour. The wines carry New Zealand Wine Growers sustainability accreditation.

This Pinot Gris was picked at night to ensure the grapes arrived at the winery in optimum condition. Carefully controlled low temperature skin contact has enhanced the natural flavours and structure of this second release Tupari Pinot Gris a full-flavoured expression that displays a pleasing intensity.

A single vineyard wine, the 2012 Tupari Pinot Gris is a richly flavoured mouth filling expression, with ripe pear and spice notes, a luscious texture and a long elegant finish.
