X marks the spot. The X Factor. Bacon and X. You can be sure that anything with an X in it is going to be a bit special, right? Even so, you probably won't quite be ready for a fresh, crisp white like this.
This wine is Txakoli, and until recently, the Basque locals kept it all to themselves. They claimed they made 'only enough for the home'. X-tremely selfish, we thought. But finally, it's X-ported. Ever so slightly sparkling with a prickle of fizz; very very dry; and a civilised 11.5% alcohol. Making it the perfect option for a picnic lunch. Or Basque-ing in the afternoon sunshine.
Located at the heart of Getaria in Spain, Txomin Extaniz has been dedicated to making txakoli wines for generations. The area is renowned for culture, gastronomy and its white wine. Records from Gipuzkoa Protocol Archives go back as far as 1649, linking Domingo de Etxaniz with vine growing in Getaria. The Txueka Etxaniz family has been dedicated to cultivating vines and making Txakoli wines for generations. Today the Txueka Etxaniz family runs the vineyards that create this unique white wine.
