Verget Mâcon-Bussieres Vieilles Vignes de Montbrison 2014

Good winemaking is all about taking the raw materials, encouraging them to shine, then turning the resulting juice into something spectacular that truly reflects its roots. Domaine Verget have this process down to a fine art.

Working in the Mâconnais region of Burgundy, they have picked only the best Chardonnay grapes and treated them with absolute care, barely touching the wine during fermentation in order to preserve the true identity of the vines.

It makes us want to get back to our roots, get out the old photo albums and reminisce. We're not sure how we've come out compared to the Mâcon Bussières though...

The Mâcon Bussières vineyard is located to the north of the Roche (rock) de Vergisson. The vines are planted on south-facing slopes, which helps the Chardonnay grapes to ripen with ease.

The wine is made from a selection of their oldest vines and only the free run juice is used. Only 20% of the wine is aged in new oak barrels. It is not stirred during fermentation to preserve the acidity and freshness.

Verget's Mâcon Bussières is bright and fresh but with a gentle mouth-filling texture. It is dry with subtle minerality throughout and delicate aromas of acacia blossom and ripe peach.
