The Vicioso Torrontes is bright and energetic in appearance, with intricate aromas of exotic fruits and a hint of jasmine flowers; zingy, crisp and deliciously refreshing on the palate.
Torrontés was grown on the flatlands to the east of Mendoza and has an unusual history as it combines the Old World and the New. It combines Muscat d'Alexandrie which smells of orange peel and fresh grapes and is grown all over the Mediterranean and Criolla Chica. The Spanish bought the latter with them to the Americas in the 16th century and in combining the two created something uniquely South American. With all of the zingy freshness of a good Sauvignon, round out the flavours with a little apple and pear whilst easing off on the gooseberry and add a touch of cream. So whilst the Torrontés is relatively unknown in the wine world it is definitely worth tasting.
