You probably think you already know all about Marlborough Sauvignons; like a well-fitting pair of boots. They're comfy as hell! Who cares if the laces are frayed and the soles are coming away from the rest of the material; so it looks like the boots are having a conversation with each other while you're strolling to your local watering hole? "The usual, please bar-keep!" Think again! Grown in the exceptional Southern Clays region of Marlborough this wine is the Sauvignon Blanc equivalent of bejewelled brogues, even Cinderella will turn her head to see what you're wearing & more to the point, what you're drinking!

Villa Maria was founded in 1961, when 21-year-old George Fistonich leased five acres of land from his father and stuck some vines in the ground. He harvested his first grapes in 1962 and bottled the first vintage of Villa Maria, a wine label now ubiquitous with excellent New Zealand wine. Villa Maria’s Southern Clays label is named for the exceptional vineyard area the wine hails from. The vineyard’s clay soils, coupled with a strong pursuit of vine health and balance, have resulted in fruit of outstanding quality. The wine expresses powerful aromas of boxwood and passionfruit which harmonise with subcutaneous scents of green capsicum & subtle flinty notes. The palate is surprisingly full; think trying to fit a whole Mango in your mouth, it’s delicious but by gum your cheeks are full. Quintessential Sauvignon acidity gives the wine a freshness & a long lingering finish
