Vina Ardanza 2008 - 75th Anniversary Edition Jeroboam

Is there a perfect way to celebrate your 75th birthday? Perhaps good food, good wine, surrounded by friends and family before adjourning to your local rave to get real silly. That’s our retirement plan.

La Rioja Alta had a better way to commemorate making their most widely loved wine, Vina Ardanza, for 75 years. They took one of their best ever vintages, the 2008, then bottled it in a jeroboam adorned in Swarovski crystals. This wine has a scintillating palate of redcurrants, damson, coconut, sweet spice and leather supported by an elegant palate and ripe tannins. Thanks to the large bottle the wine is aging slowly and evenly. This a glorious bottle and dare we say it, a great gift for the 75 years old your life!

Released in 2017, each bottle of this collector's edition is numbered and signed by the winemaker, Julio Saenz. The double magnum comes in a special box, that includes an exclusive wooden corkscrew to uncork it. 

On July 10, 1890, five Basque and Rioja-based vine growers created ‘Sociedad Vinicola de la Rioja Alta’ in what is known as the Haro Station District. This was the beginning of a fascinating business venture in which the only dream of the five founders was to craft and age high quality wines. Mr Vigier, a French expert, was hired as technical manager and we were soon familiar with what is now known as ‘classic’ production. The company changed its name to "La Rioja Alta" in 1891. La Rioja Alta is one of the most thought-after Bodega (winery) in the famous Rioja wine region of Spain. Known for its ‘traditional’ approach to making Rioja wine, and its use of exclusively American oak as opposed to French for making its wines, R.A. has actually known an evolution in style like the rest of the region over the past two decades. Their wines are now often referred to as ‘modern classic’.

In 1942, La Rioja Alta registered the brand that would bring the winery its greatest fame - Viña Ardanza. 75 years on, they released this jeroboam in very limited quantities to commemorate this anniversary and celebrate the success of Ardanza.
