You are young, and you are beautiful. Relish the fact that, unlike some of us of more mildewed vintage, the words "German Riesling" don't have a distant redolence of something in a blue bottle, or of something in a bottle labelled to make it look like a castle, or of something you'd grimly endure because you might have been on a promise.

You are young, and your mind is unsullied and as pure and natural and fresh as this perfect dry German classic, from a time-honoured winery that's now looking to the future. And you are that future. Be proud.

Weingut Wageck Pfaffman takes its name from Wilhelm Wageck, who established the winery in 1900. It is now under the control of Wageck's great-grandsons Frank and Thomas Pfaffman, both of whom studied winemaking in Geisenheim and who take charge of white and red wine respectively. Wageck seeks to make dry and pure wines that allow the character and minerality of the soil to shine through, the low yield of the vines and the ripeness of the fruit giving the wines a lower level of acidity and a firm, full body.

The Pfaffmans believe that great wine is created in the vineyard, and that only the best grapes will make the best wines. All grapes are hand-picked and hand-sorted in the winery. Red wines are mash-fermented and pressed after two to four weeks, after which malolactic conversion takes place in oak barrels. White grapes are pressed after up to 24 hours stnding time, temperature-controlled fermentation taking place either in wood or in stainless steel.

All Wageck wines are non-certified vegan. The Riesling is fermented entirely with natural yeasts occurring in the vineyard, giving profundity to the nose and complexity to the palate.
