The Oddbins Take

Like the senior editors of national newspapers, hedge fund managers and classy bond villains, several French grapes have found their second home in Tuscany. The hilly landscape, at relatively high altitudes and the influence of Mediterranean breezes tempering the climate makes the region ideal for producing reds with a similar structure, ripeness levels, palatable alcohol and aging potential of Bordeaux. Not to mention the undulating countryside makes for a fantastic evil fortress when dugout of the side of a hill.

Querciabella are one of the finest Tuscan producers to work with international grape varieties. Turpino is an adventurous blend of Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Merlot. Half of the grapes come from the estate’s Maremma holding, the other from Greve-in-Chianti. The palate is multi-layered and richly flavoured with plenty of ripe forest fruit characters balanced by a refined structure and a lovely energetic freshness which runs through to the finish. Hints of spice and a mineral edge add complexity and gives excellent definition.
