The Oddbins Take

To many people, Amarone may seem like the perfect wine. It has a full-body, weighty mouthfeel yet has silky smooth tannins. The palate has a complexity and concentration of flavour that is rare in other styles of wine, expressive of dried fruit flavours, forest berries, cocoa, sweet spice and balsamic notes.

Even the novelisation of Hannibal Lector preferred to pair liver and fava beans with Amarone opposed to Chianti. What Hannibal lacked in dietary decorum, he made up for with his excellent taste in wine… A bit… Good wine picks are no justification for cannibalism… we just want to be clear on that point.

So, you may now ask, can any bottle best a bottle of Amarone? Of course, one that’s twice as big!
