The Oddbins Take

It is strange that Morey-Saint-Denis is in so many ways just like any other tiny rural village. With a population of around 700, the towns folk probably borrow sugar from their neighbours, greet each other on their way to work, let their children play on the street and other communal pursuits that city-dwellers find so disconcerting.

Yet unlike your average rural town, Morey-Saint-Denis is one of the epicentres of fine wine production. Boasting 5 Grand Cru appellations and 20 Premier Cru vineyards, no doubt there are significantly more maturing Pinot Noir barrels than there are people.

Approaching this astonishingly complex and well-structured Burgundy wine, rich with notes of ripe red fruit, truffles, rhubarb and black pepper on the finish, we’d say they got their person to wine barrel ratio just about right.
