The wine is not actually grown in the garden of Eden, apparently the trade tariffs make wine exports unviable; bloomin' Adam & Eve and their protectionist economic policy. However, Wakefield did find the next best plot.

In 1969, Bill Taylor had just established his vineyards and he was already looking beyond those borders to expand the Clare Valley estate. His neighbour to the east had a beautiful patch of land.

Bill went to visit him and struck a deal that he'd be the one to purchase the land should he ever decide to sell it. Well, it was almost twenty years later but Bill is nothing but tenacious. The neighbour kept his promise and that section of the estate became forever known as 'The Promised Land'. The rich terra rossa soils kept their promise too and have consistently produced award winning wines like the Shiraz with a lively palate of juicy red berry fruits, plum and spice, along with subtle chocolate and savoury characters from the oak maturation.
