The Oddbins Take

"The girls from Weingut Gaul, the sisters Karoline and Dorothee, have lived and breathed the family wine from youth to seniority. They took over the winery. encouraged by their elders to make Spätburgunder, Riesling, St. Laurent, even Dornfelder such as this one, ripe with cherries and with berries and quite savoury, with a lingering finish filling your entire mouth with flavour! We must doff our caps to wine that gives such sensory sonority, and the chiming vinous couplet of the Weingut Gaul sorority!

In recent times it has been the German wine scene that seems to evolve faster than any other. Of course, they're steeped in tradition, you'll still find excellent flute shaped bottles with classic Teutonic labels and funny German terms like Anbaugebiete on them. However, with the current generation of trailblazing vintners producing exceptional, terroir driven wine, with a focus on dryness, modern styles, and with many producers working with organic, biodynamic and minimal intervention practices, German wine is now down right cool. If you're looking for the next big thing in wine, you'll probably find it in Germany and almost certainly in this case of modern German wines!
