Single Malt Whisky

It’s a term that gets bandied about, undoubtedly, you’ve seen it on Scotch labels, you might hear it of an evening when an entitled businessman shouts it at a bartender while ordering an Old Fashioned, we don’t know what kind of life you lead. Fair to say Single Malt is ubiquitous in the Scotch world and is recognised as an indicator of quality, but what does it actually mean? It’s pretty straight forward actually; it must be made from 100% malted barley and come from a single distillery. That way, you get a whisky that’s truly expressive of that distillery and the place it hails from. This applies to whisky produced across Scotland, be it off the coast like Talisker or right down south like Glenkinchie. They’ll tell you a story those single malts… you just need a word or two of Gaelic.
