Cabernet Franc

Cabernet Franc might not be quite as famous as other varieties, but the truth is he has been around longer than most. Delicate by nature, he thrives in cooler climates. In his home region of the Loire Valley he has successfully established a reputation as the leading man in Anjou-Saumur and Chinon, giving refined, finely structured performances. Centuries ago he ventured to Bordeaux to spend some time with his sons Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and became a vital part in family gatherings as he does a great job softening the younger ones’ bolshier behaviour.

Cabernet Franc is a light-hearted type, whose cologne of raspberry, currant and violet gives him an air of elegance and sophistication. Despite this he is not considered to be a noble variety – not that this matters to him. This grape remains confident, knowing that his unique qualities will always be called upon: he is after all, one of the most widely planted red grapes in the world.
