Mourvèdre

Mourvèdre is a social type, who dislikes being on his own. His best buddies are Grenache and Syrah, and in the nineties they started a band called GSM and gained world-wide recognition as a flavoursome, structured and fiery act. Syrah and Grenache love hanging out with him because he brings the alcohol.

Mourvèdre loves travelling and assumes new identities in different parts of the world: in his home country Spain he calls himself Monastrell, in Australia and California he is referred to as Mataro, and Mourvèdre is his name in France. In the latter country, his social potential was realised and he was chosen as one of the members of the exclusive Châteauneuf-du-Pape club. In upmarket Bandol he is a leading figure, where his deep colour is perfect for making high-quality rosé.

Mourvèdre was almost driven to extinction by evil Phylloxera, but came back stronger than ever – and strength is the primary quality he brings to blends; in alcohol, colour and structure.
