Now, we have the propensity to be a tad irreverent when it comes to alcoholic beverages, honestly, we just don’t want to be another one of these merchants that describes aged Chateauneuf-du-Pape as tasting of “unwashed Périgord truffles, freshly harvested from clay rich soil which have then been driven through a loganberry bush in a 1987 Ford Cortina, 1.2 diesel engine of course.” Actually, that’s a pretty great tasting note *makes mental note to bust out that comment at next Christie’s tasting*.

However, in this particular circumstance we feel a degree of solemnity is required, you see, this page is dedicated to female winemakers. “Lady with reds is vinifying with me!” God, just when you’re trying to be serious for once, Chris De Burgh bursts in with poorly constructed references to 1986 pop classics!

We’ll try again, *shoots unyielding glare at Chris* whilst the numbers are increasing dramatically every year, women are still in the minority in the winemaking world. For a long time, a woman at a professional tasting would be beyond a curiosity, like so many other industries, the wine glass seemed to be above the glass ceiling. It’s undoubtedly moving in the right direction but not fast enough, we reckon, thus the wines highlighted below showcase some of the finest wines grown, vinified and bottled by women.

“Sisters are fermenting it for themselves!” Great now the Eurythmics have shown up *sigh*.
