Semillon has been going steady with Sauvignon for as long as anyone can remember. They are a great couple, who enjoy a symbiotic, mutually beneficial relationship: Sauvignon gives Semillon the bracing, zippy fruitiness that he craves; and Semillon provides a reassuring structure and expansive home for Sauvignon. However, Semillon sometimes gets tired of his exuberant partner and heads off to Australia’s Hunter Valley, where his subtle, grassy, lemony rind qualities really shine and where they veritably shun the otherwise popular Sauvignon (poor thing).
