A party-animal if ever there was one. Tropical, orchard fruit-driven, high in alcohol and strongly aromatic, it likes nothing better than to sun itself in the south of France, where it can become almost racy in its freshness. If it hops in the Lamborghini and tears up to Condrieu it softens, revealing tender, poached pear and honey notes. It can often be found with its hedonistic soulmates, Marsanne and Rousanne, but has a healthy relationship with the more stable Chardonnay who, incidentally, has had a bit of a revival as a result of its connection with this trendy grape. So confident is Viognier, that it can even hold its own with Shiraz in New World blends, the bold thing!
