Californian Wines

California is the jewel in the crown of the American wine industry. Ever since the Judgement of Paris in 1976, when Steven Spurrier (played by Severus Snape in hit wine movie Bottleshock) illustrated Napa Valley wines could out perform their French counter parts, much to the disgust of the French wine judges. Since these heady days, California has established itself as one of the most renowned premium wine regions in the world. Not merely for Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay that did so well in the early days, but exceptional examples of Rhône varietals, Spanish grapes and crazy field blends have been appearing up and down the west coast.

California have also got the whole quality spectrum covered; from mega cult wines that require you to join a waiting list before you’re allowed to part with $3000 to purchase a single bottle (thanks a lot Heidi Barrett), to industrialised wine farms that produce enough bargain bottles to fill a medium sized lake on the Canadian border (not Superior but probably Ontario).

The one problem with California, is it can be hard to find wine that sits in the middle of these 2 extremes because there is so much domestic demand for them. That’s why we’re rather chuffed with the selection we’ve brought in… Sorry for the self-bugle-blowing but these wines are brilliant!

    £29.00

    £29.00

The Orin Swift Blank Stare is generous on the nose with classic aromas of white peach, pear and freshly cut grass. On the palate there are shards of minerality, white fig and lemon zest with beams of acidity to create an extensive finish.
