German Wines

Wines Of Germany

There may be no wine producing country that has modernised so significantly as Germany.
When you take in the slick, contemporary bottles below you realise these are wines that would fit in at secret 24-hour discotechs in Berlin, with patrons dressed in Hugo Boss, who refer to their mobiles as "mein handy!" It’s not just their appearance that is strikingly modern, while top quality Riesling still rules the roost in Germany, producers are experimenting more and more with alternative varieties and vineyard locations.
German grown Spatburgunder (aka Pinot Noir), Sauvignon Blanc and Grauerburgunder (aka Pinot Gris) are setting tongues to wagging and lips to smacking.

All the while a new generation of winemakers are also experimenting with modern, bone-dry wine styles and avant-garde practices both in the vineyard and the winery, with producers such as Alexander Gysler implementing biodynamic principles, with many others focusing appreciably on minimal intervention winemaking. So, put any footballing prejudices aside and ask yourself, what would The Hoff do? That's right, break down barriers (let's call it a metaphorical wall) and embrace Germany like the hero that you are.
