Orin Swift Californian Wine Selection wine Elvis

Orin Swift Winery Location

The history of Orin Swift Cellars dates back to 1995 when David Swift Phinney spent a semester in Florence “studying”. During that time, he was introduced to wine, how it was made, and turned into a fully-fledged oenophile. A few years later, David took his first plunge into the wine industry with a job at Robert Mondavi Winery as a temporary harvest worker. He decided that if he was going to work this hard, it would eventually have to be for himself. So, in 1998 he founded Orin Swift Cellars; Orin being his father’s middle name and Swift being his mother’s maiden name.

Orin Swift's wines represent the best of modern Californian winemaking, with a move away from tradition to a more handsy, feel based approach and where the accepted stylistic requirements are thrown out the window.

The philosophy at Orin Swift is simple – find the best grapes they can, let them hang and ripen, and then express the profile of the fruit in the boldest, most expressive way possible. The result is wines that are unapologetically high in alcohol, wines where monstrous fruit concentration is to the fore and a small, considered use of old French barrels is only there to season and soften the wines.
